SOCAR Proceedings is published from 1930 and is intended for oil and gas industry specialists, post-graduate (students) and scientific workers.

Journal is indexed in Web of Science (Emerging Sources Citation Index), SCOPUS and Russian Scientific Citation Index, and abstracted in EI’s Compendex, Petroleum Abstracts (Tulsa), Inspec, Chemical Abstracts database.

Aims & Scope

SOCAR Proceedings covers fundamental research and practical aspects of subsurface energy resources for sustainable oil and gas exploration and production, alternative/renewable energy sources.

It includes novel theories, emerging concepts, fundamental and applied research and development, review papers, and field application studies in all areas of petroleum science and engineering.

General topics include but are not limited to drilling and completion; production and operations; reservoir and petroleum engineering; formation evaluation; petrophysics; rock physics; geology, geophysics, geochemistry; geomechanics; numerical simulation; mathematical, physical and chemical modeling; injection and producing facilities; oilfield chemistry; water management and treatment; transportation and storage; injection and producing facilities; refining and petrochemistry; digitalization; artificial intelligence; data analytics;  economics; environment; sustainability and fundamental research in mathematics, physics, chemistry with prospects for future application in reservoir and petroleum engineering.

 

Section Descriptions

Geology, Geophysics & Formation Evaluation

Covers the fields of formation evaluation and petrophysics including both fundamental research on characterization of porous media from molecular- to reservoir-scale domains as well as practical applications. The publications under this section comprise a wide range of topics including but not limited to petrophysics, rock physics, multiphase and compositional fluid transport in porous media, mechanical/elastic properties of rocks, conventional, advanced, and innovative core laboratory analysis, borehole geophysical measurements, well logging, well navigation and geosteering, formation testing, well testing, borehole fluid monitoring and production assessment systems, subsurface measurement methods, intelligent borehole and formation time-lapse monitoring systems, outcrop measurements, integration and interpretation of in-situ rock measurements, resource and reserve evaluation, geology, geophysics.

Drilling & Completion

Covers fundamental research and practical applications relevant to drilling and completion disciplines through the life cycle of wells from planning to abandonment. Drilling topics included in this section consists of drilling equipment, drilling fluids and materials, drilling measurement, data acquisition and automation, casing and cementing, wellbore, wellhead and drillstring design, drill bits, drilling operations, pressure management and wellbore positioning. Completion topics included in this section cover completion selection and design, completion installation and operations, sand control, well stimulation techniques such as hydraulic fracturing, acidizing, formation damage and completion evaluations. As part of the well life cycle management, well integrity and abandonment related topics are also part of this section.

 

Reservoir Engineering

Covers the broad field of reservoir engineering from both fundamental research and practical application perspectives. The wide range of reservoir topics include: waterflooding, reservoir management, reservoir monitoring & surveillance, reservoir performance analysis, improved/enhanced recovery, SCAL studies, unconventional resources, flow through porous media, performance prediction, reservoir simulation & modeling, heavy oil, phase behavior, reservoir aspects of CO2 and hydrogen storage, geothermal energy, reserves evaluation, and uncertainty/risk assessment.

Production & Operations

Transportation & Storage

Covers the latest advances and cutting-edge developments in the field of oil, natural gas, refined oil products, and other mediums in transportation and storage engineering at home and abroad. It includes theories, methods, tools, techniques, and products to serve and promote the development of oil and gas storage and transportation industry.

Injection & Producing Facilities

Covers the latest developments of equipment and devices with their technical characteristics, modern process technologies developed by the national and foreign enterprises of the oil and gas complex and related industries. It serves as a platform for manufacturers of oil and gas equipment and provides opportunities for publishing to manufacturers of related industries, whose equipment can be used in the oil and gas industry. The wide range of topics include: latest achievements in the field of improving systems for the development of oil and gas-oil fields, equipment and technology for oil and gas production, as well as discusses the most relevant scientific and production-related issues in the field of equipment and technology for the construction of oil and gas wells and the construction and operation of oil and gas pipelines, bases and storage facilities.

Refining & Petrochemistry

Covers petrochemistry and processing such as chemical composition of crude oils and natural gas liquids; petroleum refining (cracking, hydrocracking, and catalytic reforming); catalysts for petrochemical processes (hydrogenation, isomerization, oxidation, hydroformylation, etc.); activation and catalytic transformation of hydrocarbons and other components of petroleum, natural gas, and other complex organic mixtures; new petrochemicals including lubricants and additives; and information on scientific meetings relevant to these areas.

Economics

Covers economics of the oil and gas industry, from exploration, development and production, to transportation, refining and marketing. Also covers energy-related topics, conservation, the environment, hydrocarbon development and management, alternative energy, sustainable economic development.

Environment Protection

Covers the most urgent, important, and complex issues related to oil and gas fields and the environment. It disseminates information on pioneering research, scientific advancements, recent developments, and significant findings to facilitate carbon reduction, pollution control, and sustainable and low-carbon growth.

Renewable Energy

Subsurface renewable energy transport and CO2 and hydrogen injection are included.

Data Science & Engineering Analytics

Covers data science and engineering analytics that involve understanding and making effective use of data and digital solutions in petroleum engineering. Including data analytics, machine learning, artificial intelligence, and big data, focuses on applications, case studies, computational and other tools such as data acquisition, storage, retrieval, sharing, analysis, optimization, and visualization for better decision making, collaboration, safety, sustainability, return on investment, and value creation.

Fundamental Research

Covers solutions that are unique to the oil and gas industry but do not fit in typical petroleum engineering categories. The topics include but are not limited to innovative research and application of technologies adopted from other industries, multidisciplinary topics, management, and decision analysis. Fundamental research in hydrodynamics, mathematics, physics, chemistry with prospects for future application in reservoir and petroleum engineering.
